Taxi and Private Hire
Barry Greig (Director), is a professionally qualified subject specialist in the transport sector, including LV, PCV, and HGV for technical qualifications and driver qualifications for public and private hire vehicles. During his early career path he was a vehicle inspector for the MOD and the Scottish Office specialising in emergency vehicles and equipment. After gaining professional status Barry joined the Statutory ITB namely the Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB) as a technical trainer and ultimately as Head of Department. This required a move to Livingstone where a large residential Multi Occupational Training and Education Centre (MOTEC) had been built for developing a range of technical, driver and management courses for the Transport Sector. Being a Statutory Body the RTITB had oversight over all transport qualifications. When not in the classroom or workshops the focus was assisting in developing qualifications and course materials for colleges and the transport industry including being the lead author for automotive technical qualifications for former East European countries entering the EU. During this time Barry became an external verifier with the City and Guilds.
After taking early retirement Barry was requested to assist the National Private hire Association in developing a qualification for NPHA’s entry into Go-skills, the Sector Skill Council. This was completed as a BTEC VRQ and further upgraded in 2010 to the present nine unit Qualification currently sitting with the regulatory bodies Ofqual and SQA. Many thousands of drivers have successfully gained the qualification. To assist with their learning, drivers could purchase learning materials in the form of booklets – these became uneconomic and therefore another route was required.
Barry partnered with eQualify to bring his extensive knowledge of the Taxi and Private Hire sector together with online learning. The goal was to create an online study guide for the SQA Qualification ‘Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver’ (SCQF Level 5/ RQF Level 2). With the product fully developed, eQualify began working with Approved SQA Centres across Glasgow to allow drivers to fully study online instead of in the classroom. SQA Centres offer light additional tutorial support when required + they manage the final SQA exams, and eQualify does the rest. Drivers study online using their PC or smart device. This is an active product in the market, having launched in 2020.
Our Approved SQA Centres offering this qualification include:
- GTG
- Glasgow Taxis Ltd
- RoadTrain
- A1-Technical
- Glasgow Clyde College
- Glasgow Training Academy
CPD Development in Veterinary Medicine and Practice
Stephanie Whyte, BSc, BVMS, MRCVS, is a successful practicing Vet in Scotland with a private practice in Stirling. Steph did her Veterinary Degree at Glasgow University and works within private practice specialising in dogs, cats and other small animals. Steph came to eQualify after seeing a gap in the market for affordable short CPD for Vets, as well as short informational courses for the public specific to pet ownership and breeds of pets. She wanted to share her extensive skill set and knowledge to help new Vets, Vet students and pet owners to expand their own skill set and understanding through best practice and practical advice.

Online Study Guides for Highers
In the Scottish secondary education system, the Higher is one of the national school-leaving certificate exams and university entrance qualifications of the Scottish Qualifications Certificate offered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. eQualify started looking at developing online study guides for various Scottish Higher exams after Ailsa Gray, a lawyer and mother, approached us. Ailsa has two daughters going through the Scottish secondary system and was spending a significant amount of time researching and collating flash cards, study techniques and resources to assist her children. Navigating the vast wealth of information online, aligning it with the curriculum for excellence and designing an affective model for successful systematic studying was right up our street.
Videography, Photography and Customer Service
Hillary Shearing is the Managing Director of TMC Weddings a Canadian based wedding media company that provides photography and video services to brides across the country. Hillary first came to eQualify because she wanted to create online training and small process learning for all her contractors in the first instance, but we quickly determined that short courses on photography and wedding planning were a key skill that her company could share with both photographers, brides and the general public. TMC has partnered with eQualify to build a range of short courses.
