eQualify Ltd. is the brain child of Dr Deneka MacDonald. Deneka is a passionate and skilled online learning expert who began her career in the field whilst doing her Masters Degree in Canada. She moved to Glasgow to do her PhD at Glasgow University in 1999 and secured a position with the Distance and Learning Centre in 2002 where she first came across (the then new piece of software called) Moodle and met Martin Dougiamas (now a longtime friend). Advancing to a high level position as Senior Instructional Designer at the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Glasgow University, Deneka spent the next 5 years as part of a team engaged directly with the rollout of Moodle across the University, whilst developing close relationships with Scottish colleges as they did the same.
In 2008 Deneka left the University to pursue and become the first Moodle Partner company in Scotland, where she was Managing Director until 2022. During her time as a Moodle Partner, she designed and developed hundreds of online learning courses and programmes for clients across a variety of sectors, whilst also maintaining a position as an associate lecturer with the Open University (1999-2018) teaching on the Masters in Online and Distance Education.
In 2019 Deneka wanted to be more directly involved with the learning she designed, envisioning a company that partnered with academics, clinicians, industry experts and sector specialists to bring affordable and reliable training products – study guides, CPD and training qualifications – to market. She started eQualify to offer a business model that encourages traditional training centres and individuals to partner and create online learning without the lengthy and costly process of creating it in-house or paying upfront costs for instructional designers to do it for you. This unique model offers clients with limited funds the opportunity to partner for limited or no initial investment, making projects less risky and more accessible to those new to online learning.
